Terms of Service

1. Agreement to terms

By creating an account or using Ferni ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users of Ferni, accessible at fernifinance.vercel.app.

2. The service

Ferni provides:

• →A monthly budget tracker for logging income and expenses
• →A Canadian salary and tax calculator (informational only, not a substitute for CRA filings or payroll software)
• →Savings goal tracking
• →A first-job financial checklist
• →Educational lessons and a financial glossary
• →A financial health score based on data you enter

The Service is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.

3. Not financial advice

Ferni is an informational and educational tool. Explicitly:

• ✕Tax calculations are estimates based on publicly available 2025 rates. They are not a substitute for professional tax preparation or CRA filings.
• ✕Savings recommendations (e.g., emergency fund targets, 50/30/20 rule) are general guidelines, not personalized advice.
• ✕Educational content reflects the authors' understanding of Canadian financial concepts and may contain errors or become outdated.
• ✕No information on Ferni should be construed as a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product or security.

4. Your account

You are responsible for:

• ✓Keeping your login credentials confidential
• ✓All activity that occurs under your account
• ✓Ensuring the information you enter is accurate for your purposes
• ✓Using the Service only for lawful purposes

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete account.

5. Your data

You retain ownership of all financial data you enter into Ferni. By using the Service, you grant Ferni a limited licence to store and display your data back to you within the app. We do not claim ownership of your data and do not use it for any purpose other than providing the Service.

You can export your budget data as a CSV from the Budget page. You can permanently delete all your data by deleting your account.

6. Accuracy of information

We make reasonable efforts to keep tax rates, financial rules, and educational content accurate and up to date. However, Canadian tax law, TFSA/RRSP/FHSA limits, and other financial regulations change regularly. Do not rely solely on Ferni for tax or financial compliance. Verify important figures with the CRA, a certified financial planner (CFP), or a tax professional.

7. Prohibited uses

You may not use Ferni to:

• ✕Violate any applicable law or regulation
• ✕Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
• ✕Upload malicious files or attempt to disrupt the Service
• ✕Impersonate another person or entity
• ✕Use the Service on behalf of others without their consent

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of security vulnerabilities. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any financial calculations or educational content.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ferni and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of money or financial harm, arising from your use of or reliance on the Service or any information it contains.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
