Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Ferni ("Ferni", "we", "us", or "our") is a free personal finance application available at fernifinance.vercel.app. It is an independent project built for Canadians starting their first career job. Ferni is not a financial institution, investment dealer, or financial adviser.

2. What information we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• →Account information: Your email address and password (or Google account, if you sign in with Google). This is required to create and access your account.
• →Profile information: Your name, province, annual salary, and pay frequency, entered during onboarding and editable in Settings. This is used to power the salary calculator and personalized insights.
• →Financial data you enter: Budget entries, savings goals, checklist completion, and budget allocations that you manually enter into the app. This data belongs to you and is stored in your account.
• →Usage data: Basic server logs generated by our infrastructure provider (Vercel) and database provider (Supabase), which may include IP addresses and request timestamps. We do not use this for advertising or profiling.

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to:

• ✓Provide, operate, and maintain the Ferni application
• ✓Authenticate your identity and protect your account
• ✓Display your financial data back to you within the app
• ✓Send account-related emails (email confirmation, password reset). No marketing emails.
• ✓Improve the product based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.

4. Third-party services

Ferni uses the following sub-processors to deliver the service:

• →Supabase (supabase.com): Our database and authentication provider. Your account data and financial entries are stored on Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase is SOC 2 Type 2 certified. Data is stored in the United States.
• →Vercel (vercel.com): Our hosting provider. Vercel serves the Ferni application and processes web requests. Vercel may log basic request data (IP, timestamp) as part of normal infrastructure operation.
• →Google OAuth (optional): If you choose to sign in with Google, Google authenticates your identity and shares your email address with us. Your Google account password is never shared with Ferni.

No other third parties have access to your personal information.

5. Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), all of your data (including your profile, budget entries, savings goals, and checklist items) is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our database. This deletion cannot be undone.

6. Your rights

As a user of Ferni, you have the right to:

• ✓Access the data stored in your account (it is visible to you in the app at all times)
• ✓Correct your account information at any time via Settings
• ✓Export your budget data as a CSV from the Budget page
• ✓Delete your account and all associated data permanently via Settings → Delete account
• ✓Contact us with any privacy questions or concerns

7. Cookies and tracking

Ferni uses a session cookie to keep you logged in. This is a functional, first-party cookie. It contains your authentication session token and expires when you sign out or after 7 days of inactivity. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party analytics that collect personal information.

8. Children's privacy

Ferni is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Ferni after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we may also notify you via email.
